Tribe Face
Well, well, well.
I attacked my face again with all the brushes and the powders I could find.
Inspiration this time? Tribal prints.
As always this was a happy accident. I wanted to practice a smoky eye and then all of a sudden my hand slipped and this happened!
Whoops.
I kinds just smudged and dotted until it came out like this. I'm quite happy with the result.
I want to keep practicing because, as is evident, I need to sharpen my make up applying skill. Nevertheless I think I succeeded in what I wanted to.
Well no I didn't I wanted to recreate Leah Lezark's make up on the front of this months Company Magazine.
They are unfortunately slightly different but A for effort right?
Not really...no.
But all the same.
Anyway,
OMG I love this song. It's really catchy and rather bizarre. Exactly what I would expect from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She appeared in Company too as well. Apparently she's set to storm the west! You go girl! I've loved you since I saw you in Kera Magazine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMdjJ3w9iM
Speaking of Kera, I still desperately want a pair of Tokyo Boppers. I wanted rocking horse shoes for the longest time but I've downsized. I don't think I could justify wearing something I wouldn't want to wear more than once a month. Here is a pair I'm particularly in love with. I wonder if they do my size.
Also, today I'm craving galbi. The smoky, sweet, meaty goodness, it's been over a year. Just wait til payday!

Loathe the skin your in!
My skin...
I've done face masks a-plenty, homemade and store bought alike. I've tried lathering lotions and potions of all sorts of brands that I respect and love. And they all result ing the same lumps and bumps, dry patches and stinging.
-Clarins- oww
- The Body Shop- oww
-Garnier- oww
-Lush- oww
And this is not to reflect badly on any of those brands. The truth is my skin is harder than women allegedly are. I find myself looking at my Freddy Krugar complexion and screaming
'What the f--- do you want from me!'
![]() |
| Damn, you's a sexy chick... |
Let me specific, this is my face skin, the rest of my skin is fairly nice.
At the moment I'm sticking to the whole stripping back thing. I'm using the forbidden soap- ulmighty dryer-outer of skin. But it works for my sister and my Mum so maybe it will work for me. My sister's skin sucked as a teenager and now it's super smooth and glows like sunshine.
I'm using one of the only moisturiser that my skin didnt torture me for using- Imperialis from LUSH.
And since it's for skin that 'can't make up it's mind.' It will do. There isn't a cream for skin that's a 'satanic dictator', so it will have to. I don't really fancy sacrificing a virgin every time I break out anyway. It's been two weeks on this regime. No changes yet but I reckon another month will tell me whether or not it's working.
This partnered with pouring my body weight's worth of water into my face, sleeping right, regular exercise and a decent diet will improve things. I have been a bit wobbly on the whole stable routine thing so maybe that's why my skin is being mean to me. Probably also the reason that I feel more rotund of late although my lovely friends would insist that it's all in my head. I don't know that that is entirely comforting.
So maybe it will turn out that all my skin wants is a nice simple life uncomplicated by fragrant gloop. If so I guess it'll make me a bit thick for not trying it out before. Switching from one regime to the next and refusing to be patient with my skin is kind of a derpy thing to do.
Still, they say bitches make it in life. Following that philosophy, if I was as much of a bitch as my skin was I would probably be very successful. Perhaps I'll look into that.

Bantu Knots
My hair is natural. Therefore it's not straightened and I don't have extensions or a weave. It's not even dyed. It's not for any particular reason. It just suits me. I'm fidgety as it is, if I had a weave I would itch the bitch out of it. It would add a certain crazy to my general disposition if I was constantly patting and scratching away at my scalp. My hair doesn't stay straight for long no matter how violently or intricately I apply chemicals and heat to it. Besides, I look my most awesome with my natural hair and I love it. When I texturised my hair in my teens it huffed and it puffed and it eventually committed suicide so in the summer of 2010 I decided- to hell with this and got my poofiness back.
I'm still not totally on top of it. I'm slowly learning to take care of my hair and discovering new ways to emphasise it's beauty.
One of my favourite things I've discovered was a twist out. And in doing so I also re-discovered Bantu knots or 'China bumps' as we St.Lucians and Antiguans and Jamai...well I think it's most of the Caribbean call them China bumps, but I can't be sure. A Bantu knot/China bump is best done with wet hair. Just washed hair is better but sometimes I cheat and use a spray bottle full of water. I would explain how to do them but I'm lazy so I'll include a link to a wonderful Youtube vlogger who inspired me instead! Here's what they look like though.
And this is what it looks like fresh out.
You kind of fiddle and separate them until you get the affect you want.
I have to say I'm at my happier with my hair now than I have ever been. Even though we fight a lot and it always wins. See diagram.
When we aren't on speaking terms I usually revert to the old vintage scarf-cum-turban look. My collection is expanding impressively.

I hope it brings you the happy twisting it brought me.

Yay Emmy!
Oh Emmy, you bundle of lovely!
So I'm super happy because I have loads of fun know bottles of goo to try lathering my face in. One of my absolute kindred spirits Emmy got me a plethora of new skin products to try and cannot wait to get started on them. I'm like a kid in the candy store! A kid in the candy store that cannot read. No, I am not illiterate. You see, the thing is most of what Emmy has bought me is from either South Korea or Japan. Ergo a lot of the user directions are in either Kanji or in Hangul.
I would love to get Emmy's help in all this new fun but she's about to be swept up again by the world of Business and postgraduateness. So this leaves me to seek out the divine wisdom of Google. It's a shame too because Emmy is a fantastic beauty guru, you should check her out. See her blog, how it sparkles.
http://emi-doll.blogspot.co.uk/
She writes openly and honestly about all the products she reviews. I recommend it. Of course if you are a friend you can receive her sage advice live. The great thing about Emmy besides her face is how she tells you how it is. A little brutally at times, but she gives you the truth, the whole truth and NOTHING but the truth. Whether you like it or not. So along with the present, she gave me a consultation complete with full facial critique.
Please see diagram...
Here is a grad total of all of the awesome products.
(which has English instructions, I knew I loved Jo Kwon for more than his great dancing! He's the gentleman with the charming quif and jaunty pose. And the boy can SING!)
For now though here's the whole bundle!
I cannot wait to get stuck into all of this!
Until then!

Worst Goth Ever..
I wanted to release my inner goth recently by being intense, moody and poetic. I realised however that despite my well meaning efforts I can only be moody and intense at a certain time of the month. I am also as poetic as the digestive system of a goat. I have therefore settled for attacking my face with some make up!
I really loved the dark, seductive shades of A/W 2012. So what better way of waving it a fond farewell, than to badly attempt emulating it!
Rock and roll! *ahem*
Here is my face, enjoy or at lease try to get through it as best you can.
Oh, as you can see here I am a cross eyed alien baby.
This blur was artistically done. I swear!
The lipstick used is MAC's Cyber and I swear it looks awesome. Do NOT let it put you off.
HAH anyhoo!
This is how my sister tells my Mum that she left her phone downstairs.
I freaking love my family!
Also this is so cool, I want it right now.
RIGHT NOW.
Om nom topshop!
Until next time!

Visual Merchandising
When I was in my early teens I always used to enjoy using online doll-makers like Elouai.com and Dollzmania.com. I loved being inspired by music and creating a character who I felt encapsulated it. Almost a decade later and nothing has changed. Sometimes the loser in me misses doll-makers, piecing together clothing to create a narrative; an attitude; a persona.
Luckily for me I'm still able to express this when I dress myself. Even though I can play with ways to reinvent myself, I cannot be satisfied. No matter how loved a canvas I am, or how much I adore my wardrobe it will always have it's limits. Recently I even asked for visual merchandising training at work. If I can have a creative input in the company, I will start enjoying work like I did when I first started. But even that has it's limits.
That's when I discovered polyvore.com. Okay, okay, I know I wam so late, just like I was with lookbook.nu. I know it existed but I never imagined it would be so simple. Lookbook.nu is a wonderful sight but I don't have the equipment to be successful on it- or indeed remotely successful.
I've started putting together sets inspired by music. One of my favourite sets is called 'Camomile Tea'. It uses pastel pink and mint green and was inspire by a song by Perfume called 'Communication'- very bouncy and sweet.
This collection was inspired by the song 'Henrietta' by the Fratelli's. I love rockabilly/vintage and try to emulate it quite a lot.
Kelly Brook has a beautiful collection exclusive to New Look that uses a lot of 1950's pin up glamour. That's why I included her as the model
One of the most fun sets to create was based on the main character from Park Chan Wook's 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' called Lee Geum Ja.
She's so apathetic and aloof. While I'm at it I suggest you check that out too. Be prepared to cry!
I feel I've segued enough for one day.
Until next time...

Emilie Autumn: Fight Like A Girl
Friday 13th went by and I didn't even realise. I've never been much for that superstition, more of a magpie's girl myself but it just so happens that every time Friday 13th comes by I have a pretty good day. This time round was no exception.
My best friends and I went to see Emilie Autumn at the Electric Ballroom.
I've never really heard her music before so I only had a very vague idea about what to expect. I have to say I was blown away by the results.
I've never really heard her music before so I only had a very vague idea about what to expect. I have to say I was blown away by the results.
It was like entering another world. Walk through the wardrobe and into a post apocalyptic Narnia, where the Queen is still in charge but she's serving tea, crumpets, booze and glitter. A steam punk wonderland. And they had tea! I freaking love tea!
The first person who came on stage was a wonderfully odd looking pirate who I later learned was called Captain Maggots. She is one of three of Emilie's band/gang/army called 'The Bloody Crumpet's'.
Captain Maggots is my favourite! She has a great affection for 'slicing and dicing and warm pastries.' I feel in love with her on sight. I love pirates and pastry.
The other crumpets were just as awesome. Naughty Veronica is an extremely sexual young woman, who pulls up innocent girls and corrupts them with her mysteriously titled 'Rat Game'. Her fan dancing was visually intoxicating- honestly she made me glad to be a woman!
The Blessed Contessa got the crowd moving with her 'fingers and toes' chant. But she loves the feeling of 'crunching a bone betwixt (her) teeth', so I couldn't guarantee I'd stay alive in her presence for very long. I have to say she was the most expressive facially when she dance and looked convincingly menacing while being beautiful. I reckon she would bite you if given half the chance- elegantly of course.
Emilie's songs were haunting, dark and at times humorous. There was something enchanting about the whole night. The atmosphere created by both performance and audience is one I shall never forget. I haven't been able to get Emilie Autumn out of my head since. Even going back to work felt mundane after that.
It would be dramatic to say that this has changed my life. It has inspired me to write, draw and compose. I will post my drawings up when I'm done. I think that when I have an iPod that works again, there will be a sizable chunk that will be taken up by Emilie Autumns music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bKWjMQThMI&feature=related
I have a voracious hunger to know more of her music, to read the 'Asylum' book she wrote and to write darker material with as sharp a wit as she uses in her lyrics.
Emilie Autumn is a lyrical and musical genius. The Bloody Crumpets are each talented in their own right and as a collective are one of the greatest live acts I have ever had the privilege of seeing. Unknowingly I walked into a bucket list moment and at the nearest opportunity will sign myself into the 'Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls' without hesitation.

Thank you Erika and Sarah for sharing your wonderland with me. I have been corrupted- I'm a muffin in training.
